OF SPECIAL NOTE

There are several highlights of the Gathering worship community including:

Weekly Sharing of Communion

Sharing communion weekly is central to the Gathering. Rev. Smith offers words of blessing; a loaf is broken and the congregants come forward to receive communion that begins with Rev. Smith serving the first person who breaks the bread and dips a piece of it into the cup.

This individual then takes and bread and cup and turns to serve the next person.  This ritual continues until Rev. Smith is served last. We believe that this form of communion emphasizes the Gathering’s unity and emphasizes our belief in the model of servant leadership.

Sunday School

The Gathering offers a structured program for pre-school children using contemporary curriculum designed to provide them the basics with love.

Biblical Text Studies

Studying biblical texts together is an important and special activity of the Gathering. In the past, we have studied each of the four Gospels, Romans, 1 Corinthians and Revelation. Currently, our focus is on  an in-depth  study of Genesis. More than 30 people are enrolled in classes which meet Monday night at 7:30 and again on Weds at 10.

Service

We believe that the Jesus we encounter in the Gospels calls disciples to do His work.  Members of the Gathering are actively involved in a wide variety of acts of service throughout the year such as volunteering in non-profits such as My Sisters Circle, Turn Around, Maryland Food Bank, March of Dimes, and Baltimore Interfaith Hospitality Network.

Additionally, the Gathering congregation organizes and participates in activities such as food drives, clothing and school supply collections for worthwhile and important organizations in the immediate area as well as those around the world.
